Paratex American is owned and operated by John and Karen Smith.
John and Karen have lived in the Grays Harbor area for 40 years.
John first started out with Paratex in 1990 as a reconstruct carpenter.
Later that same year, he obtained his pest control operator's license and
became a pest control technician. John worked his way up in the company, eventually
managing the operations. When the former owner decided to retire in
April of 2002, John and Karen chose to purchase the business and continue
operations with the same staff and philosophy. Currently, the
business employs 10 people and covers the Grays Harbor and Pacific County
areas. John Smith (yes, this is really his name) is a lifelong resident of Grays Harbor. He graduated from Aberdeen High School in 1981. He has been a homeowner in South Aberdeen for 15 years, and served on Ward 1 of the Aberdeen City Council as an interim position. John's hobbies include mountain biking, motorcycling, hunting, and spending time with his wife and two children. Karen Smith is also a lifelong resident of Grays Harbor. She graduated from Montesano High School in 1981. She married John in 1994, and they have two children. Karen is an ambassador with the Grays Harbor Chamber of Commerce, and a board member for the Aberdeen Kiwanis Club. Karen is also active in the Driftwood Players. Her duties at Paratex include accounts payable and receivable, payroll, marketing, human resources and general management duties. She is also licensed in structural and pest control. Karen's hobbies include scrapbooking, reading, hiking, camping, and spending time with her husband, children, and beloved cat, Steve, who has shown great pest-control skills. |
